Matt Carter

A 2003 graduate of El Modena High School where he was a Century League champion in the high jump and long jump, and runner-up in the 110m hurdles and 4x 100m relay. At Santa Ana College, after winning the JUCO State high jump title, he won the 2004 USA Junior Track & Field Championships title and a spot on USA Team for the World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy. In 2005, Matt dropped out of school to work full-time to help support his family, and was injured in 2006. In 2007, he jumped 7’ 3 ¾” (2.23m), his PR, at the Jim Bush So Cal USATF Championships on June 3 and qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials. He jumped 7’0” or higher in all 7 meets in which he competed this year, including 2 summer meets at Birmingham HS where all but the last 3 strides of his approach were on grass.
